Tai Chi demonstration at Ålands lyceum

I was asked this Tuesday to attend a demonstration of Taichi at the high school in Mariehamn and we met with gymnastics teacher Ann-Elin Hobberstadt outside the school at half past twelve. Together with me was Agneta Hansson, also she from the tai chi association Vita Tranan.

Ann-Elin welcomed us and we went to the gym. We were wearing our Tai Chi costumes and brought our weapons with us.

Since it was a long time since any of us had a demonstration, we quickly went through what we would show them and agreed to start with qigong and then show them brush knee and push which is one of the main moves in Tai Chi.

Agneta told them about White Tranan and I filled in with the story of the Tung family.

Some of the students showed interest and asked some during the lesson but especially Ann-Elin who had invited us was very interested and asked the most. She told that she had been on body balance and that there were movements that were said to be from Taichi but it was now understood now why they were doing them.

In conclusion, it was nice to meet the students and show them Taichi and I hope that some of them will be so interested that it starts doing it.

We finished the lesson by demonstrating the short saber form and I added a photo of three different sabers used for training.

The first saber is a training table of metal that is quite easy and fits well for people with less muscle strength.

The center is a wooden saber and is good for beginners.

The last saber at the far right is a real saber and the weight makes it suitable for those who ha come further in their training, specially for them with greater muscle strength.
